About Tortoise South East

Tortoise South East is run by Jane and Sian who have been looking after tortoises and running a tortoise rescue centre in Essex for over twenty years.

They work closely with specialist veterinary surgeons and are frequently asked to help with recuperation of sickly tortoises. Jane gives the lecture on  tortoise keeping to the students at the Royal Veterinary College, London and veterinary students often come to the rescue centre as part of their wider work experience.

Tortoise meetings and visits are held twice yearly and usually attract over fifty enthusiastic tortoise  keepers. Jane also runs day workshops on tortoise keeping attended by veterinarians, veterinary nurses and tortoise owners. We are most busy however, answering the phone, giving help and advice. Phone calls often number around ten calls per day, particularly during busy periods such as the lead up to hibernation.
